Another great one from Charley and a cover of another great song written by Johnny Cash. Great job and thank you for your reaction. Excellent.
Thank you too!
You must know by now how I feel about you and Charley's music.
I do! Please don't hold back, I need the motivation. It's good to have you here.
Wow! This song woke up some memories for me. I had totally forgotten the song and the first line just brought it all back. I don't sing very well, but I remember when I was young, I thought I could sing this song.
Love Charlie Pride...thanks DJPJ ...❤
Love it ... !!!
Beautiful music to my ears.
This is the music I was raised on. Lefty influenced so many artist from the era. Johnny Cash did an excellent job on this song also.
Absolutely love this Charley Pride song. Definitely a great dedication for your wife, P j.
Charlie Pride never made a bad record.
I have never heard a song by Charlie Pride I Didn't Like
Heard a young Waylon Jennings sing this tune.
Great songs by a true country singer. You might enjoy this if have time to watch. Charlie and Glen Campbell sing "El Paso" ruclips.net/video/bTJKRJj5fOk/видео.html
They say most of her songs were done in one take, so essentially her scope of work is actually Live.
Saw Charlie in concert many times. Great entertainer, such a nice guy.
Great song ... I don't remember if I've ever heard it before, but you don't really need to have. With artists like Charley and others in that era, they make you feel it's familiar.
I have a funny story about Charley Pride…I’ll have to tell it to you sometime.
@benjamminnw I can't wait to hear it brother.
People used to dress up, pre- 1970.
People should dress up more
Thank you for another great reaction. You are a joy to follow. I am so thankful I found your RUclips channel.
Thank you so much!
My favorite version of this song was by Tom Jones. In fact the first time I heard Tom Jones was on a country station that played this song. Tom Jones, like Ray Charles and Dean Martin, recorded a lot of country.
Described to a tee. Bro.

I absolutely love Charlie Pride! Also, you have been in my thoughts and prayers. I hope all is well with you. ❤️
@carlawahl4612 Thank you so much! I am doing very well ❤️
Musically, this song reminds me distinctly of Merle Haggard's 'If We Make It Through December.' The picked acoustic accent and the falling piano chords at the end of the verses are very familiar. Google sez Waylon Jennings released this song in 1966, while Haggard's 'December' came out in 1973. Are there personnel credits on this album? The piano sounds very much like legendary Nashville session player Hargus 'Pig' Robbins' distinct rolling bass. Robbins played with Charley on several cuts, such as 'Wonder Could I Live There Anymore,' which has been a favorite of mine for a long time.
The pianist on Charley Pride's 1966 debut album "Country Charley Pride" was Hargus "Pig" Robbins. Robbins was a renowned session musician who played on numerous country music records during his career. Some of the other players include, Pete Drake - Pedal steel guitar, Jerry Reed - Guitar, Junior Huskey - Bass Kenneth Buttrey - Drums
I just listened to Merle's "If We Make It Through December" again, and you were absolutely right. I also gave Buck Owens' "Streets of Bakersfield" a listen, and I noticed many similarities between all three of the songs. All three are iconic in their own right.
@@DjPjrocReacts911 Buck and Merle were both innovators in the Bakersfield Sound in the 60s, with the picked Latin-style acoustic and the light bass presence.
@@DjPjrocReacts911 Jerry Reed is another name who was involved in a lot of other peoples' recordings. I think his whole band is backing up Dolly Parton's 'Joshua.'
Kawliga!....
Origins of rap. Check the dates. And yes, rock & roll was taken/inspired by Little Richard and Chuck Berry.
A very good version with a nice start. I do like it but am most attached to the Tom Jones rendition..
Just in case you haven't seen it, Charlie being inducted into the Hall of Fame. ruclips.net/video/zJ7awgzl9dE/видео.html
Thank you!
This is one of those songs that every Country singer had to cover in the 60s; I'm most familiar with Merle Haggard's version.
This is my favorite version of this song as well. Hey PJ you’re looking good rockin the Kenny rogers beard. Love it! ❤
@labchic In the house! How are you? I hope gooooood. Thank you, i'm feeling great!
My favorite version.Love the steel guitar.
We are going through a cold spell in Alabama. It is only 87. I love Charlie Pride. I have enjoyed your deep dive. I hope it isn't over!
Not over yet. 87, nice.
We had a blast of crazy wind and pounding rain here in Maryland last night that left 150,000 people (!) without power in Baltimore City. (A lot of fallen trees.) My neighborhood only lost power for about a minute, but many people won't have power for another day or more. Good news is our weeks-long "feels like 110F" heat wave has finally broken! Yay! Looks as if it will be mostly "cool" (85-90F) through August. It's been difficult, and several Baltimoreans have died from the heat... As to this deep dive, I too am enjoying these Charley Pride tunes. It appears every song on that album is a gem.
@@DjPjrocReacts911 we will be back in the mid 90s tomorrow. The humidity is very high
I am so glad things are finally cooling off for you guys. What terrible weather! Imagine,(85-90F) being cool. Lord have mercy on us all. Stay hydrated Buckeye!
🔥 Stay safe my friend.
Seminole and Creek both belong to the larger Muskogee group. The US government split the Muskogee and most of the Creek were removed via the Trail of Tears. It's customary for Seminole and Creek to greet one-another as "brother/sister", in the spiritual sense.
I saw that little smile P.J. Poor Charlie Pride and others this woman left a path of heart breaks. If you just listen to the tempo you wouldn't know how sad this song is. Great reaction and analysis P.J.
Thank you D!
Porter Wagner and Tom Jones did a fine job on this song. There is something in Charlie Pride voice that makes his version sound so authentic. Great choice P.J analysis
Again, I love the up-tempo arrangement contrasting with the blue lyrics.
Another great country singer with roots in those Eastern Kentucky mountains. This is my favorite song he recorded and I like them all. I can imagine the hurt being separated from the Southern land I love. Away from friends and family, all alone in a big city where you are all alone. Dwight knows how to tell a story.
This is the first country music singer I heard. He was my father's and his families favorite. I was 9 years old when Hank died. It was devastating as Hank was only 29 years old. I have every song he ever recorded and know most of them by heart. His influence can not be measured.
I love Charley Pride! I had the privilege of meeting and hanging out with Charley’s son Dion Pride one afternoon at a show my husband was playing. He was so incredibly respectful of every musician that played that day. He listened and clapped and greeted everyone. I was beyond impressed! Not all musicians or famous people treat everyone like they matter.
This is another Jim Reeves song but from his early years, before he developed the crooner voice for the Nashville Sound. Most of these on the album are covers. Wait til you get into Charley’s original work. That is where he really shines. Although there are two cover songs that Charley took on and made his own, Kaw-Liga and Where Do I Put Her Memory?
And this one will always be owned but Bobby Bare. A version that can be recognized right from the first note.
Not heard it yet, but the BB dive is comming soon.
@@DjPjrocReacts911 first artist I ever saw live.
As much as I love Charley, this song will always be owned by Jim Reeves.
You also LOVE Jim Reeves.
@@DjPjrocReacts911 Yes. My mom’s favorite. There are many songs that Jim did that I have a hard time listening to other artists sing them. A few exceptions to that. I loved Kitty Wells Jim Reeves album. And Daniel O’Donnell sang a lot of Jim, and I love his versions. And Sean O’Farrell. Listening to Sean sing Jim Reeves is like Jim reincarnated. He has recently recorded an album of Jim Reeves songs. Eagerly awaiting that release. The producers tracked down the actual microphone Jim used on his recordings for Sean to use on his album. My dad’s favorite was Kitty Wells. The nice thing about both parents and kids liking country music is, there weren’t arguments over music being played in the house. Two of my brothers spent about 3 months listening to acid rock, which the rest of us hated. But, it was only a fad for them and the soon went back to country,
Not for reaction, just for reference. Here is a short clip of Daniel explains how much the Irish people LOVED Charley. ruclips.net/video/ol_hagy_ELE/видео.htmlsi=Bzo6TnQavpaVwGiz
